Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women understands that scripture asks us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world. As such, Presbyterian Women provides information about justice and peace and ministry to inform mission and community-building work.

Presbyterian Women in the Synod (PWS) builds community; affirms women’s calls to leadership and spiritual growth; and serves as a link between Presbyterian Women in the Presbyteries and Presbyterian Women Churchwide.

At the most basic level, every PWS group
      • elects its own leadership—the coordinating team;
      • plans and implements a yearly program and determines its own budget;
      • participates in PW programming, such as PW/Horizons Bible study, mission, racial equity, or justice and peace work;
      • supports the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) worldwide;
      • develops the leadership abilities of women;
      • preserves historical records of PW in the Synod; and
      • maintains connections with PW at other governing body levels
      • sends a representative to the National Board of Directors

What to expect at the PW SLAP Gathering/Better Together:
(Presbyterian Women of the Synod of Lakes & Prairies)

Experience a time of hope, praise and fellowship. This will be a time to grow your faith. It will be a place where having time to be with God/Creator and other women is a priority. It will be a time to reconnect, renew and grow. The Gathering will explore the PW Purpose in a variety of ways. Plenary (entire group) sessions and keynote speakers will focus on specific points of our purpose. Workshops will provide information about a wide range of topics, including PW missions. A hands-on mission opportunity will be a time to sew school bags. Giving from your hearts and wallets will allow you to support Lila Mae House, All About You Adoptions, Marion Medical Mission and the Dr. Susan LaFlesche Picotte Center.

Even more enticing is that the Gathering will give you a chance to lift your voice in praise by being part of the Gathering Choir; you will meet and make new friends; you will share laughter, smiles, hugs and tears; you will gather new ideas for your local PW group; you will enjoy great food and hotel accommodations located along a beautiful river walk. But best of all will be the many unexpected blessings happening all around you and to you. Please come join us!

Start each plenary by hearing the word of God from our Worship Leader Rev. Danelle Crawford McKinney. She brings a unique outlook to our Gathering as she helps us to ponder God’s calling through her eyes and experiences that will guide each of us to understand our  own calling.

Please see the registration packet for full information on Mission Opportunities, Workshops, Hotel Reservations, What to Bring and more.

We hope to see you in June!
